Aggies edge Cats on Woodruffs walk-off HR

Freshman shortstop Emily Woodruff hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Albertville to a 4-3 decision over rival Guntersville in varsity softball action Tuesday at Sheldon Elmore Park.

Woodruff batted 3-for-5 with two runs while Katlin Light went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Lady Aggies, who improved to 18-2.

Shainna Pearce singled and scored and Jenna Chandler singled for AHS.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Albertville went up 3-2 in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Wildcats forced a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh.

The teams combined for 11 errors — five by GHS and six by Albertville. The Lady Aggies left 12 runners on base while Guntersville left 10.

Torrea Talton was the winning pitcher for AHS. She worked nine innings and allowed five hits, an unearned run and one walk. She struck out three.
