Lady Aggies conquer Indians, Knights

The Albertville varsity softball team ran its record to 12-1 by posting road victories on Monday and Tuesday.

Albertville 8, New Hope 0: Lady Aggie pitchers Peighton Ponder and Torrea Talton combined on a one-hit shutout in Tuesday's triumph.

Ponder earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings. She walked one and struck out one.

Talton threw 1.2 innings and allowed one hit while striking out two.

Albertville scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Lady Aggies collected nine hits, all singles.

Katlin Light led AHS by going 3-for-3 with a run and three RBIs. Brittany Copeland went 2-for-2 with two runs.

Emily Woodruff, Madi Bruce, Jenna Chandler and Erin Segers each contributed a hit.

Woodruff scored two runs and stole three bases.

The Lady Aggies committed four errors.

Albertville 8, Arab 3: Four of the Lady Aggies' seven hits went for extra bases in Monday's win over their Marshall County rival.

Talton homered and doubled, Woodruff tripled and Bruce doubled for Albertville, which scored four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth.

The Lady Aggies led 5-0 before Arab scored its first run in the bottom of the fifth.

Talton finished with four RBIs and two runs. Woodruff collected three RBIs.

Shainna Pearce closed 2-for-3 with two runs while Light went 1-for-3.

Chandler, Madeline Munroe and Erin Stewart all scored a run.

Ponder posted the victory in the circle. She yielded two hits, walked two and struck out eight in 4.2 innings.

Talton worked 2.1 innings. She surrendered two hits and fanned three.
