AHS rules Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA - The Albertville varsity softball team improved its record to 10-1 by winning the championship of the Oneonta Invitational on Saturday.

Albertville will travel to New Hope on Tuesday before coming home to play host to Class 5A, Area 12 rival Etowah on Thursday.

On Friday, the Lady Aggies will take on Vestavia Hills and Gulf Shores in pool play games of the Vestavia Hills Tournament.

Albertville 7, Hayden 0: The Lady Aggies opened their run toward the Oneonta Invitational crown by shutting out Hayden in pool play Friday.

Peighton Ponder earned the win in the circle. She allowed two hits and struck out two.

Torrea Talton allowed two hits and one walk in her stint in the circle.

Madi Bruce batted 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and one RBI to power Albertville's eight-hit attack.

Talton finished 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI. Emily Woodruff tripled and scored three runs while Jenna Chandler doubled and drove in a run.

Brittany Copeland was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run.

Albertville 7, St. Clair County 1: A five-run third inning was the key for the Lady Aggies as they beat the Saints in pool play Friday.

Ponder's three-run homer, which traveled about 260 feet, was the highlight of Albertville's seven-hit attack. She finished with four RBIs.

Woodruff was 2-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases, and Copeland went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs.

Talton, Chandler and Shainna Pearce each singled.

Ponder was the winning pitcher. She yielded one hit and struck out three.

Talton surrendered two hits and fanned two in a relief stint in the circle.

Locust Fork 7, Albertville 1: The Hornets handed AHS its first loss of the season in Friday's pool play contest.

Katlin Light, Bruce and Talton all doubled for the Lady Aggies. Copeland added a single.

Bruce drove in Talton with Albertville's only run.

Albertville 5, Susan Moore 0: Ponder and Talton combined on a two-hit shutout in Albertville's victory in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Ponder earned the win. Both pitchers struck out three batters.

Light batted 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run to lead Albertville at the plate.

Talton, Bruce, Copeland, Chandler and Pearce all singled. Talton drove in two runs.

Albertville 8, Hayden 2: Ponder homered and earned the win in the circle to lead the Lady Aggies past Hayden in Saturday's semifinals.

Ponder gave up one hit and struck out one. She drove in three runs and scored two.

Light went 2-for-2 with a run, and Pearce finished 2-for-2. Talton doubled and scored two runs.

Both Madeline Munroe and Chandler singled. Chandler also scored two runs while Copeland knocked in a pair of runs.

Talton allowed one hit, one walk and struck out two in two innings of relief work.

Albertville 13, Locust Fork 1: The Lady Aggies avenged their loss by hammering the Hornets in Saturday's championship game.

Albertville collected 13 runs on 13 hits. AHS exploded for eight runs in the first inning and added four in the second.

Talton led the way by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Woodruff batted 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI.

Madison Hulsey, Bruce, Copeland, Erin Segers, Chandler, Ponder, Munroe and Pearce each contributed a single.

Pearce scored three runs and Light two. Both Copeland and Ponder had two RBIs.

Ponder posted the win. She gave up two hits, struck out three and walked one.

Talton allowed one hit in her relief stint. She fanned two and walked one.
