AHS defeats Gadsden City, Fort Payne

FORT PAYNE — The Albertville varsity softball team posted victories over Gadsden City and Fort Payne as it opened the season Feb. 18.

Aggies 15, Gadsden City 0: Katlin Light batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs to pace Albertville’s hitters in the rout of the Titans.

Haley Carnes finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Brittany Copeland went 2-for-3.

Both Emily Woodruff and Peighton Ponder batted 1-for-1 while Madi Bruce went 1-for-2 with three RBIs.

Becca Townsend closed 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Torrea Talton earned the win for AHS. She struck out two batters and walked none.

Aggies 5, Fort Payne 4: Talton batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs to help AHS edge the host Wildcats.

Copeland was 2-for-2 at the plate, and Jenna Chandler finished 1-for-1 with double.

Bruce went 1-for-2 and Woodruff 1-for-3.

Ponder, a seventh-grader, earned the victory while Talton got the save in the circle.
