Peet's homers highlight AHS victories

HUNTSVILLE — Albertville launched its run through the Class 5A North Regional by pounding No. 6 Muscle Shoals 13-2 Friday afternoon at the Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex.

McKenzie Peet belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning, propelling the Lady Aggies to a 3-1 lead.

Albertville slammed the door on the Trojans by exploding for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth frame.

The Lady Aggies finished with 13 hits, including doubles by Hannah Woodruff, Brittany Copeland and Maggie Younghouse.

Younghouse batted 3-for-3 to lead Albertville’s attack.

Torrea Talton earned the win, pitching four innings. She allowed four hits and struck out one.

Albertville 5, Scottsboro 2: The Lady Aggies toppled No. 9 Scottsboro on Saturday morning to advance in the winners bracket.

Albertville’s Carrie Barton belted a double into the left-center field gap leading off the second inning.

Copeland sacrificed Barton to second, and she scored on Talton’s squeeze bunt.

Becca Townsend’s squeeze bunt produced Talton, who slid headfirst into home as Scottsboro catcher Chrissy Cobb dropped the ball.

Scottsboro’s Emily Glover singled and later scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the second.

Copeland reached on a fielder’s choice in the top of the fourth. She stole second base and scored off a throwing error on Talton’s bunt, giving AHS a 3-1 edge.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, Stephanie NeSmith reached on a fielding error.

Peet followed by blasting a two-run homer to left field, extending Albertville’s margin to 5-1.

Scottsboro’s Tyris Branford hit a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh. She scored on Hilary Mavromat’s sacrifice fly.

Albertville first baseman Townsend made a terrific diving catch in foul territory for the final out.

Barton was the winning pitcher. She scattered nine hits, struck out four and walked two.

Hartselle 8, Albertville 4: Third-ranked Hartselle built an 8-0 lead as it downed the Lady Aggies in the winners bracket finals Saturday night.

The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the second, with two of them coming home when Albertville dropped a flyball.

Hartselle scored five times in its half of the third inning.

Ashley Bonner, Hayden Watts and Sara Lang each contributed an RBI single for the Tigers.

Anna Hall stroked a two-run single.

The Lady Aggies answered with all four of their runs in the bottom half of the third.

Townsend led off with a bunt single. She scored due to a throwing error on Emily Woodruff’s bunt.

Hannah Woodruff’s single scored her sister, trimming it to 8-2.

With two outs, Peet smashed a two-run homer to left center.
