Lady Aggies ranked sixth in 5A

The Albertville varsity softball team slid from No. 5 to No. 6 in this week’s Class 5A poll compiled by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Mortimer Jordan leads the poll, followed by No. 2 Rehobeth, No. 3 St. Paul’s, No. 4 Muscle Shoals, No. 5 Springville, No. 7 Faith Academy, No. 8 Scottsboro, No. 9 Hartselle and No. 10 Cullman.

Albertville 11, DAR 0: The Lady Aggies improved to 16-3-1 with a five-inning victory Wednesday at Grant.

Carrie Barton, Torrea Talton and McKenzie Peet combined to pitch a no-hitter.

Barton got the win, striking out four and walking one in two and one-third innings.

Talton struck out two in one and two-thirds innings. Peet pitched an inning.

The Lady Aggies exploded for seven runs in the third inning, highlighted by Peet’s two-run double and Maggie Younghouse’s three-run triple.

Barton batted 2-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs. Peet finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

Younghouse went 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Brittany Copeland was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Hannah Woodruff batted 1-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs for Albertville.

Both Becca Townsend and Emily Woodruff scored two runs and Talton one.
