No. 9 Lady Aggies stop Guntersville

GUNTERSVILLE — Class 5A, No. 9 Albertville defeated rival Guntersville 4-1 in varsity softball action Tuesday.

Maggie Younghouse batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs to power Albertville’s attack.

Carrie Barton was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Torrea Talton went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Seventh-grader Emily Woodruff finished 1-for-2 for the Lady Aggies.

Both McKenzie Peet and Becca Townsend scored a run.

Talton posted the win in the circle for AHS (14-3-1). She worked five and one-third innings, allowing two hits and one walk. She struck out four.

Barton threw one and two-thirds innings. She gave up three hits and one walk while striking out one.

Kaitlin Bannister batted 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Lady Wildcats.

Beverly McDonald finished 1-for-2 with a double and RBI. Deanna Creps was 1-for-3 with a double, and Emily Carnes went 1-for-3.

Creps pitched a complete game for the Lady ’Cats. She scattered five hits, walked none and struck out four.

Guntersville committed four errors.

Today, Albertville will travel to Etowah for a Class 5A, Area 13, matchup.

Guntersville 7, Albertville 6, junior varsity: Lana McDaniel stroked a two-run homer for the Lady Wildcats as they edged the Lady Aggies.

Bethany Langner collected two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Guntersville.

Shainna Pearce batted 2-for-3 with a run to lead Albertville.

Laura Ratcliff tripled and drove in three runs for the Lady Aggies.
